Knife Handlers

Position: Full-time

Hours are: Monday to Friday 5am – 1.30pm

East Tamaki location


Day-to-day responsibilities of the role:

  • Seafood Preparation:
    • Receive, inspect, and weigh various types of fresh seafood (fish) following food safety guidelines.
    • Skillfully clean, trim, debone, fillet, and portion seafood according to customer specifications and industry standards.
    • Utilize specialized knives and equipment safely and efficiently, maintaining consistent quality and yield.
  • Hygiene & Sanitation:
    • Maintain a clean and sanitized work environment, adhering to strict food safety and hygiene regulations.
    • Wear and properly utilize personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Implement principles in daily tasks and report any potential hazards.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

    • Maintain and sanitize knives and equipment.
    • Assist with loading and unloading products.
    • Assist with inventory management and stock rotation.
    • Participate in cleaning and sanitation of the processing area.
    • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Candidate skills and experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a knife handler or butcher.
  • Strong understanding of safe knife handling practices and processing techniques.
  • Excellent dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physically fit and able to withstand cold temperatures and standing for extended periods.
  • Food Safety Certificate preferred.
